Trump administration updates: Schumer continues to face calls for new leadership

After Elon Musk's meeting at the Pentagon earlier Friday, President Donald Trump continued to deny a New York Times report that Musk was going to receive a briefing on a top-secret military plan for potential war with China.

"I don't want to show that to anybody. But certainly, you wouldn't show it to a businessman who is helping us so much. He's a great patriot ... But I certainly wouldn't want -- you know, Elon has businesses in China, and he would be susceptible perhaps to that. But it was such a fake story," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Musk was at the Pentagon to talk about the Department of Government Efficiency.

"There was no war plans. There was no Chinese war plans. There was no secret plans. That's not what we were doing at the Pentagon," Hegseth said.

President Donald Trump was pressed further on deportation flights and reports that some individuals included were not members of Tren de Aragua or MS-13.

"Well, I was told that they went through a very strong vetting process and that, that will also be continuing in El Salvador. And if there's anything like that, we would certainly want to find out," Trump said. "But these were a bad group."

"We will continue that process, absolutely," Trump added. "We don't want to make that kind of a mistake."

Meanwhile, the Trump administration in court has declined to provide any additional information about the flights.

"Mr. President, do you think you have the authority, the power, to round up people, deport them and then you're under no obligation to a court to show the evidence against them?" ABC News White House Correspondent Karen Travers asked Trump.

"That's what the law says and that's what our country needs," Trump responded.

President Donald Trump continued to go after the federal judge who ordered to stop the deportations over this weekend.

ABC News' Karen Travers asked if Trump had the authority to round up people and deport them and was "under no obligation to a court to show evidence against them."

The president claimed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had the power to curb illegal immigration.

"He's got the authority to get bad people out of our country," the president said of Rubio. "And you can't stop that with a judge sitting behind a bench that has no idea what goes on, who happens to be a radical left lunatic."

Judge James Boasberg, the judge overseeing the case, was appointed by President George W. Bush.

President Donald Trump was asked about the newly released files on the John F. Kennedy assassination by the Dept. of Justice and admitted there was "nothing earth-shattering" in the documents.

"You'll have to make that determination in those," he said.
