President Donald Trump is defending his decision to pause some tariffs to Canada and Mexico for another month -- a notable reversal after imposing historic levies on the key U.S. trading partners earlier this week, causing markets to tumble.

On Friday, Trump signed more executive orders at the White House before he convened a first-ever cryptocurrency summit with industry leaders.

McMahon confirmed as education secretary

WWE co-founder Linda McMahon was confirmed as U.S. secretary of education Monday evening by a party-line vote of 51-45. Two Republican and two Democratic senators weren’t present for the vote.

Jeffries will attend Trump address to lead 'determined' Democrats

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will attend Trump's address to Congress on Tuesday night, the lawmaker announced Monday.

Jeffries said he and Democratic leaders will attend “to make clear to the nation that there is a strong opposition party ready, willing and able to serve as a check and balance on the excesses of the administration.”

“The decision to attend the Joint Session is a personal one and we understand that members will come to different conclusions. However, it is important to have a strong, determined and dignified Democratic presence in the chamber. The House as an institution belongs to the American people, and as their representatives we will not be run off the block or bullied,” Jeffries wrote in a letter to colleagues.

Jeffries said Democrats are “encouraged” to “stand together” on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. on the East Front Capitol Steps “for an event featuring the voices of the American people.”

Slotkin will focus on 3 securities during her Democratic response to Trump address

Sen. Elissa Slotkin, who is delivering the Democratic response tomorrow, previewed her speech on a call with Democrats today in which she outlined its focus on economic security, national security, and securing the democracy, according to sources.

She is also expected to take on Trump and Elon Musk's efforts to shrink the size of the federal government, and she plans to bring someone directly impacted by those efforts -- Andrew Lennox, a Marine who served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria who was fired from his job at the VA in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Trump amends EO to add additional 10% tariff on China

President Donald Trump amended his executive order on tariffs impacting Chinese goods to add the additional 10% tariffs that he announced Monday.

The amended executive order says that tariffs on imports from China will now total 20%.
