Trump admin updates: Trump marks 1 year since assassination attempt in Butler, PA

Referencing clashes between federal agents and protesters during recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, President Donald Trump said he's directed Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and border czar Tom Homan to authorize ICE and other law enforcement officers to arrest anyone they believe is assaulting them.

In a new social media post, Trump said he is giving "total authorization" that allows officers to protect themselves and to detain alleged offenders immediately.

"I am on my way back from Texas, and watched in disbelief as THUGS were violently throwing rocks and bricks at ICE Officers while they were moving down a roadway in their car and/or official vehicle," Trump said in the post. " Tremendous damage was done to these brand new vehicles."

The post went on to say: "I never want to see a car carrying a Law Enforcement Officer attacked again! AUTHORIZATION IMMEDIATELY GRANTED FOR ARREST AND INCARCERATION."

Trump didn't specify which incident he was referring to in his post. In California on Thursday, federal agents clashed with protesters during a raid at what the Department of Homeland Security said was a marijuana farm.

President Donald Trump was asked by one reporter about those who say the warning alerts didn't go out in time and that more people could have been saved.

"Well, I think everyone did an incredible job under the circumstances," Trump said. "I just have admiration for the job that everybody did. There's just admiration."

Trump went on to criticize the reporter for asking the question. "Only an evil person would ask a question like that," he said.

"I think this has been heroism. This has been incredible, really, the job you've all done," Trump said. "It's easy to sit back and say, 'Oh, what could have happened here or there, maybe we could have done something differently.' This was a thing that's never happened before."

After touring the flood zone in central Texas, President Donald Trump is taking part in a roundtable event with first responders and local officials at the Hill Country Youth Event Center.

"The first lady and I are here in Texas to express the love and support and the anguish of our entire nation in the aftermath of this really horrific and deadly flood. Nobody has any idea how and why a thing like this could happen," Trump said as he delivered opening remarks.

"We mourn for every single life that was swept away in the flood, and we pray for the families that are left behind. It's amazing, the incredible spirit from those families," he said.

Trump went on to thank first responders who jumped in to respond immediately and those who are assisting in the search for those still missing.

"The people that are doing it are unbelievable people that you couldn't get better people than this," Trump said.

First lady Melania Trump also delivered remarks while in Texas after meeting with families affected by the devastating floods.

"My deepest sympathy to all of the parents who lost beautiful young souls; deepest sympathy from all of us to the community and everyone who lost a loved one. We are grieving with you," she said.

The first lady said they hugged and held hands with families as they told their stories, and she pointed to a bracelet she said she received from young girls in honor of the lives lost at the camp.

"So we are here to honor them, also to give the support, help. And I will be back, I promised to them," she said.
