Trump admin updates: US military is preparing for possible activation of National Guard in DC

Trump will conduct a press conference about crime in DC on Monday morning.

President Trump has announced a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin scheduled for Friday, Aug. 15 in Alaska.

The Trump administration is also once again escalating its clash with Harvard University, with Commerce Secretary Lutnick sending a letter Friday to Harvard President Alan Garber that accuses Harvard of violating its legal and contractual obligations related to federally funded research programs and patents.

Lutnick said the Commerce Department is launching an "immediate comprehensive review" of Harvard’s federally funded research programs.

Noem announces ‘Speedway Slammer’ detention facility

The Department of Homeland Security is announcing a second migrant outdoor detention facility, this one in Indiana.

"Today, we’re announcing a new partnership with the state of Indiana to expand detention bed space by 1,000 beds,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said in a post on X. “Thanks to @GovBraun for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country."

Noem dubbed it the facility the "Speedway Slammer" because the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is located in the state.

The announcement comes on the heels of Florida opening "Alligator Alcatraz" -- a tent facility in an abandoned airstrip in the middle of the Everglades. The facility was visited by Trump and has been the subject of lawsuits and controversy.

"If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Indiana’s Speedway Slammer. Avoid arrest and self deport now using the @CBP Home App," Noem wrote.

Trump says occupying Gaza is 'pretty much up to Israel'

Trump was asked whether he'd support a full Israeli occupation of Gaza as Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has suggested. The president sidestepped, saying only that everything beyond food aid is "pretty much up to Israel."

“Well, I don't know what the suggestion is. I know that we have, we are there now trying to get people fed,” Trump said.

“So, that's what I'm focused on, as far as the rest of it, I really, I really can't say, that's going to be pretty much up to Israel," he added.

Trump says FBI may have to get involved with Texas Democrats

On Tuesday, Texas Sen. John Cornyn called on the FBI to go after the Texas Democrats who left the state to try to block a Republican redistricting fight.

The president was asked if he thought the FBI should be involved.

"Well, they may have to," Trump responded.

Trump says Vance 'most likely' successor to lead MAGA but 'too early' to discuss

Trump was asked Tuesday if Vice President JD Vance is the heir apparent to the MAGA movement in 2028.

"I think most likely, in all fairness, he's the vice president," Trump responded. "And I think Marco [Rubio] is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form. I also think we have incredible people, some of the people on the stage right here. So it's too early, obviously, to talk about it, but certainly he's doing a great job."
