Trump admin updates: US military is preparing for possible activation of National Guard in DC

President Trump is considering sanctioning Russia's so-called "shadow fleet" as a part of a range of options that has been presented to him, two U.S. officials told ABC News.

Those options include, but are not limited to, ramped up sanctions and harsher sanctions' enforcement, including for the fleet of oil tankers, an official familiar with ongoing discussions told ABC News.

Russia's shadow fleet is composed of aging oil tankers that hide their ownership as a way to evade sanctions.

The U.S. already has sanctions on over 180 of these vessels — slapped on Russia by President Joe Biden at the end of his term — so the move wouldn't be the first of its kind. Trump has not sanctioned Russia in his second term.

President Donald Trump is hitting India with an additional 25% tariff over its imports of Russian oil, the White House said on Wednesday.

"I find that the Government of India is currently directly or indirectly importing Russian Federation oil," Trump said in an executive order.

"Accordingly, and as consistent with applicable law, articles of India imported into the customs territory of the United States shall be subject to an additional ad valorem rate of duty of 25 percent," the order stated.

Trump on Monday said he would be "substantially raising" tariffs on India, after imposing a 25% tariff rate against the nation last week.

India pushed back in a statement that the Trump administration's targeting of India over Russian oil imports was "unjustified and unreasonable" and that it "will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security."

Trump is expected to announce Wednesday that Apple will invest $100 billion more in the U.S., raising Apple's total commitment towards domestic manufacturing to $600 billion over the next four years.

Apple's announcement comes as Trump continues to push the tech company to manufacture its iPhones in the United States, threatening them with a 25% tariff if they don't.

Apple's investments will go towards building a new American Manufacturing Program in order to bolster Apple's supply chain and advanced manufacturing into the United States, according to a WH official.

Back in February, Apple announced a $500 billion investment over the next four years, which it said will go towards expanding U.S. manufacturing facilities in places like Michigan, Texas, and California.

Apple didn't immediately comment on the announcement.

Trump claimed Tuesday that crime in Washington, D.C., is "totally out of control," particularly regarding young offenders. In a post on his social media platform, he shared a picture of a young man who appears to have been assaulted, visibly covered in blood.

"Local ‘youths’ and gang members, some only 14, 15, and 16-years-old, are randomly attacking, mugging, maiming, and shooting innocent Citizens, at the same time knowing that they will be almost immediately released. They are not afraid of Law Enforcement because they know nothing ever happens to them, but it’s going to happen now!" Trump wrote.

Later, during an event at the White House, the president shared that a member of the Department of Government Efficiency was "badly hurt" Monday night.

"By the way, I have to say that somebody from DOGE was very badly hurt last night. You saw that a young man who was beat up by a bunch of thugs in D.C. And either they're going to straighten their act out in terms of government and in terms of protection, and we're going to have to federalize and run it the way it's supposed to be run," Trump said when asked about DOGE cuts.

Trump has criticized the current DC criminal justice system for being too lenient on minors and suggested that offenders as young as 14 should be prosecuted as adults.

When asked for clarification regarding the image of the bloodied young man, the White House directed inquiries to the D.C. U.S. Attorney's office, which did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Separately, D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwab wouldn’t comment on specific cases or allegations but said in a statement that no one living in D.C. should experience such a “horrific and disturbing” event.

The young man in the photograph Trump posted is Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old member of Elon Musk's DOGE team who left the Trump administration in June, according to sources familiar.

Coristine, who gained notoriety for his age and going by the online nickname "Big Balls," was a key player on Musk's team and worked across multiple federal agencies.
