Trump admin updates: US military is preparing for possible activation of National Guard in DC

President Donald Trump is expected to sign a memorandum Thursday ordering colleges that receive federal funds to share admissions data with the federal government to ensure the schools are not participating in race-based admissions, a senior White House official told ABC News.

The memorandum will direct the Secretary of Education to expand the admissions data that colleges are required to report to the federal government in the sake of "transparency," according to a fact sheet about the move reviewed by ABC News.

The fact sheet says that "the lack of available admissions data from universities" is something that raises "concerns about whether race is actually used in admissions decisions in practice."

The fact sheet about the memo said that the new mandated data sharing will "verify that their admissions do not involve unlawful discrimination."

The memo will also direct the Education Department to "revamp" its website displaying admissions data to make it more "efficient, easily accessible, and intelligibly presented for parents and students," according to the fact sheet.

President Donald Trump is expected to sign two executive orders later Thursday. One is formalizing debanking protections and the other one is about expanding assets that can be put toward 401(k)s.

One of the orders will bar financial institutions from denying or restricting services "based on political beliefs, religious beliefs, or lawful business activities."

The order will direct federal banking regulators to remove "reputational risk and other equivalent concepts" from their guidance. It also directs financial institutions to make reasonable efforts to reinstate clients that were previously denied due to debanking and orders his administration to look for more potential legislative or regulatory solutions.

Conservatives and those in the cryptocurrency industry have argued these guidelines have led to banks refusing to open accounts or closing their accounts.

The second order will allow 401(k) investors to access alternative asset investments such as private equity, real estate and digital assets.

President Donald Trump called on the CEO of Intel, Lip-Bu Tan, to resign "immediately."

"The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!" the president wrote on his conservative social media platform.

Trump did not elaborate in the post on why the CEO should resign, but it comes after Republican Sen. Tom Cotton raised concerns about Tan's alleged ties to China.

"I write to express concern about the security and integrity of Intel's operations and its potential impact on U.S. national security. In March 2025, Intel appointed Lip-Bu Tan as its new CEO. Mr. Tan reportedly controls dozens of Chinese companies and has a stake in hundreds of Chinese advanced-manufacturing and chip firms. At least eight of these companies reportedly have ties to the Chinese People's Liberation Army," Cotton wrote in a letter to Intel Corporation's Board of Directors Chairman Frank Yeary earlier this week.

Anita Dunn, who served as a top adviser to President Joe Biden, is set to appear before the Republican-led House Oversight Committee on Thursday as it investigates the former president's mental fitness while in office.

Dunn is the latest Biden administration official to be interviewed by the committee as its chairman Rep. James Comer seeks to find more details about Biden's mental acuity as president.

Some of the interview subjects have cooperated, while others have invoked the Fifth Amendment.

Biden himself has rejected reports of cognitive decline while he was in office.
