Trump admin updates: Trump teases 'big day' at White House

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Trump administration will move to revoke visas and impose visa restrictions on Brazilian officials and former Pan American Health Organization officials, as well as levy visa restrictions against Cuban, African and Grenadan officials and their family members over their “complicity” in what he described as the Cuban government’s medical labor export schemes.

For years, Cuba has allowed countries to bring in medical workers from the country in exchange for financial compensation. The majority of that money goes to the Cuban government -- not the medical workers themselves.

“This scheme enriches the corrupt Cuban regime while depriving the Cuban people of essential medical care,” Rubio said in a statement.

According to a study commissioned by the State Department’s annual Trafficking in Persons report, these and similar labor export programs bring in around $4 billion for Cuba each year.

President Donald Trump said he will seek "long-term" federal control of the D.C. police force during his remarks at the Kennedy Center on Wednesday.

According to Section 740 of D.C.'s Home Rule Act, Trump can only have control of the city's law enforcement for 30 days unless that is extended by Congress.

When asked whether he'd work with Congress to extend the emergency authorization allowing him to seize temporary control of local law enforcement, Trump responded, "We're going to need a crime bill, that we're going to be putting in, and it's going to pertain initially to D.C."

"We're going to be asking for extensions on that -- long-term extensions, because you can't have 30 days," he continued.

Trump also indicated that this will pertain "initially" to D.C., hinting that it could be a roadmap to be used in other cities in the future.

Trump was asked on Wednesday if Russia will face any consequences if Vladimir Putin does not agree to stop the war after Friday's meeting in Alaska.

"Yes they will. Yeah. There will be consequences," Trump said.

The reporter followed up by asking if those actions would include more tariffs or sanctions.

"I don't have to say. There will be very severe consequences," Trump said.

President Trump weighed in on his virtual call on Wednesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders ahead of his meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin on Friday.

"We had a very good call. He was on the call. President Zelenskyy was on the call. I would rate it a 10. You know, very, very friendly," Trump said while taking questions from reporters at the Kennedy Center.

Trump again said he would call Zelenskyy immediately after his sit-down with Putin. Trump said it was not his call to not invite Zelenskyy to Friday's summit in Alaska, and that he would push for a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin as well as the U.S. if necessary.

"There's a very good chance that we're going to have a second meeting, which will be more productive than the first, because the first is I'm going to find out where we are and what we're doing," Trump said.

Though Trump suggested a second meeting won't take place if he doesn't get what he needs from Putin.

"Now, there may be no second meeting because if I feel that it's not appropriate to have it because I didn't get the answers that we have to have, then we're not going to have a second meeting," Trump said.
