Trump 2nd term updates: Trump attends the Super Bowl

Trump is meeting with the leaders of U.S. Steel and FedEx today, according to sources familiar with the matter.

After former President Biden blocked the more than $14 billion deal for Japan’s Nippon Steel to take over U.S. Steel, the two companies filed a lawsuit asking a federal court to reverse Biden’s decision.

FedEx’s operations could be heavily affected by Trump’s tariffs on China, especially the provision that now requires low-value Chinese products to go through customs and tariffs.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he doesn't believe that U.S. troops are needed in Gaza in order to fulfill President Trump's proposal that the U.S. "take over" the Gaza Strip, responding "no" when asked by a reporter Thursday morning.

Earlier today, Trump posted that "no soldiers by the U.S. would be needed" after he said Tuesday evening that they might be used, if "necessary."

During Trump's second National Prayer Breakfast event remarks Thursday morning, he spoke about the hostage deal with Hamas that his team helped to negotiate, reiterating his promise in getting the remaining hostages back.

"I made a statement, and I meant it totally, that if they're not home by the time I get into office, all hell will break loose in the Middle East. And I think they respected that statement, so we'll see," he said, though he added "who knows if that's going to happen."

Trump also noted that some families of individuals who were taken hostage during the Oct. 7 attack were present at the breakfast, and he asked them to stand and be recognized.

Noa Agramani -- a former Israeli hostage held in captivity for over 8 months -- was in attendance, he said, calling her an "inspiration" and saying she was rescued "by the grace of God."

While delivering remarks at his second National Prayer Breakfast event of the day Thursday morning, Trump announced that he will sign an executive order to establish a task force to what he alleged was anti-Christian bias, in addition to creating a presidential commission to uphold religious liberty.

"The mission of this task force will be to immediately halt all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government," Trump said, adding that this will be headed by newly confirmed Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Trump shouted out Paulette Harlow, one of the individuals he pardoned after she was sentenced for blocking access to an abortion clinic in 2020. He called Harlow one of the "Christians weaponized by the previous administration."

The president also said he will also establish the White House Faith Office to be led by Pastor Paula White.

"If we don't have religious freedom, we don't have a free country," he said. "We probably don't even have a country."
