Former football booster club treasurer accused of stealing over $400K from team

The former treasurer of a high school football booster club in California faces federal charges, with prosecutors alleging she stole more than $400,000 from the organization to pay her mortgage and other personal expenses.
Julie Molina, 56, was arrested Thursday at her home in Aliso Viejo, California, officials said. She was indicted on four counts of wire fraud.
The indictment alleges she diverted the funds from the club's bank account "for her own personal purposes, including to pay the mortgage on her personal residence and pay credit card expenses."
Prosecutors alleged that Molina misappropriated approximately $411,761.54 of the booster club's funds from 2023 to November 2025.
In one instance, she is accused of moving $131,523.54 from the club's bank account through Federal Reserve facilities in New Jersey and Texas to an account in Santa Ana to pay the delinquent balance on her home's mortgage, according to the indictment.
"To conceal these unauthorized payments, defendant Molina sent numerous emails to board members of the nonprofit organization attaching false treasurer reports that failed to disclose her misappropriation of funds," the indictment alleged.
Molina is expected to make her initial appearance and be arraigned Thursday in Santa Ana, prosecutors said. It is unclear if she has an attorney at this time.
Following her arrest, her husband told ABC Los Angeles station KABC, "I really don't know anything," when approached at their home.
Each count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison if convicted.
The indictment does not identify the nonprofit organization. However, the football booster club for Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, the Wolverine Football Club, said in a statement that it is "aware of the recent developments regarding the former treasurer."
"We have been cooperating fully with law enforcement throughout this process and will continue to do so," the club said. "Because this is an active legal matter, we are unable to comment on the details at this time."
"Our current board remains focused on supporting our student-athletes and moving the football program forward. We appreciate the continued support of our families, sponsors and community," the statement continued.
Aliso Niguel High School is part of the Capistrano Unified School District. A spokesperson for the school district confirmed that Molina was an employee of a nonprofit booster club in the district. She was never employed with the school district, the spokesperson said.
